Intro. and Technology

Hi,
My name is Debbi and I am in my second year at UW Oshkosh in the Elementary Education program. I started with a great cohort and am excited about continuing this semester. I work full time at UW Oshkosh Head Start at our Seymour center. This will be my fifth year teaching in the early childhood setting. I am married to a very supportive husband, who coined himself "Mr. Mom" after an accident left him disabled and in charge of the "household" chores. We have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy. Crystal is 13, Rachel is 12, Nicholas is 11, and my youngest present is Leahla who just turned 4.

I think technology is incredibly awesome. I've seen many changes since I was in high school, when computers first came out and we had to run our own programs. I also think it is hard to keep up with the many changes that technology holds in store. You blink, and everything you own is outdated:) I know if I have some problems keeping up, I just ask my "techy" children and they can help me in a nano-second. I understand the importance of using technology with students, but have not had the opportunity to do that with the age of students I am teaching and the program I work for. I think technology can be implemented into the classroom quite easily and the children will be able to access it easily.

Debbi-
I recently had to deal with the issue of blink and its gone. I bought a new MP3 player and my Windows XP which I bought in 2002 will not let me upload my new software and now I can't use my new MP3 player until I upgrade my computer to Vista or a new XP. Then I thought about getting a whole new computer. But I am cheap and just bought the upgrade system. Technology can be both beneficial and harmful because not only is it frustrating but also costly.

Hi Deb,
I'm glad you have a supportive husband who is willing to help out during this busy time in your life. Congratulations on going back to school. I agree with you in that technology is a little scary. You are lucky to have children who can help you with technology. My son gets too frustrated to help me. I can't blame him. Good luck with your schooling and career.

Hey Deb,
I can totally agree with you on how fast technology is moving. I am excited to learn more about this blogging and doing websites. I know sometimes that it is frustrating, especially with you having dial up. Hopefully this class will clear up a lot of our questions.
Have a great night!
Kim :)
Say hi to Leahla for me!

Deb,

I to see a lot of different technology changes since I've been out of high school and it has only been 6 years. Technology is changing so fast, that it's expensive to keep up with the new. There are so many different ways to introduce it to you younger children. My daughter has computers in her Pre-k classroom this year.

Hi Deb,
It is intersting how technology is forever changing. The one thing that I have never been good about is keeping updated on technology.
When I joined the cohort and found out that many of the classes and the work would go through the D2L. I decided to purchase a laptop computer. It has been a God send. I remember a friend of mine saying to me "you don;t want to spend the summer in the basement." She was right I do a lot of my assignements on the back deck where it is pleasant and I feel somewhat connected with nature at the same time.
